Is it really an ‘affront to human dignity’ to promote exiting among women involved in prostitution?
One of the problems with current service provision for women involved in prostitution is the lack of high quality and dedicated exiting services (although there are some great ones out there!). One of the concerns of service provision is that in some way they will be being disrespectful by offering more choices. In fact, certain academics have called promoting exit from prostitution "an affront to human dignity" - confusing the idea of offering alternatives - and having an open and honest conversation about women's choices and the context in which those choices are made - with forcing a particular path (NOT what exit is about). We disagree with this condemnation. In fact, research has shown that women would like to have more conversations about the possibility of change.
